Welcome to 2010
How has the GFC impacted your business? With the dawn of the 21st century's second decade, Multibase still aims to help you to use information technology to increase productivity, reduce your business costs, and continuously improve the service you provide.
We still do this with our traditional services of CL4, software development, application maintenance and hosting. Now we also do it with services like asset management and maintenance, web site and intranet content management systems, business continuity planning, business intelligence and mobilisation of information and business processes.
 |
|
Staff changes
There have been a number of changes in staff and responsibilities at Multibase.
- Kerry Myers has been promoted to Infrastructure Team Leader, joined by Matt Gavin as System Administrator.
- Neil Cameron has joined our expanding business development team in the enterprise content management area, with Alice Payne transferring from our service team.

Multibase has provided software and hosting solutions to government at all levels throughout its history. In December, we won a place on the well-contested tender panel for the supply of ITC products and service for NSW Local Government Procurement.
Local government as well as not-for-profit and state government agencies can buy Multibase's entire products and service range without further tenders - from web sites to information mobility solutions, asset management and maintenance, to legacy system maintenance and integration.

Your questions answered - myanswers.mobi
According to futurist Paul Higgins from Emergent Futures, smartphones and other mobile devices will eventually replace most laptop and PC applications. "[It] is really a social enabler that allows us to do things we have always done or always wanted to do but far more easily. It's about removing barriers to people to act. If you can do something now rather than having wait for two days, it's far more likely to be done."
 |
|
Information mobility is in reach
Multibase can show you how to set up a myanswers.mobi space that will instantly mobile-enable your applications and information services with access from iPhones or any mobile browser as well as SMS and MMS - working in parallel with your existing web site and applications.
It's surprisingly quick and remarkably economical to provide no-fuss, simple-to-access answers to the questions your customers or staff want, as well as allowing data entry from mobile forms that don't burn up time and bandwidth to access.
Mobilising travel
We're excited to announce our first information mobilisation project with our partner Blink Mobile, for one of our valued customers in the travel industry. Our client's customers will shortly be able to receive instant information updates and offers via SMS or .mobi site - on any mobile platform including 2G, 3G, smartphone, and iPhone.

Take a look at Bounceback, providing up-to-date information about events, availability, etc all from a mobile phone. It's free for clubs, schools and other not for profits - all costs are paid for by a simple 55c SMS from the user. We're pleased to introduce this service to you with our partner Blink Mobile.

CL4
 |
|
Expanded legacy system support team
As the developer of CL4, an application development toolset for Unix with its own database, Multibase is excited to welcome an increasing number of clients using CL4 business systems. We are increasing our CL development team with our WA-based partner Hazel Blue as well as in-house developers to enable us to provide ongoing support for these applications. Who better than Multibase, the developers of CL4, to manage and enhance your systems?
|
 |
|
Enhancing the CL4 application experience
It's more than 25 years, and CL4 continues to be used to solve emerging application and usability issues that arise in existing CL4 business applications. This enables organisations to continue to use and develop their applications, for example, a current project to modernise a widely-used CL4-based accounting system within the Papua-New Guinea Government's financial system.
Here is some new functionality developed for some of our customers. Some of this functionality is sure to appear in a future release of CL4:
- A general reporting function to produce output in various forms; print to screen, line printers, laser printers, PDF or CSV (spreadsheet) format, and to store these reports in a repository for each user.
- Secure access via a web browser to the user's reports repository.
- Enhanced page by page display of reports to screen and of output from clquery to allow for paging forward and backward and movement from side to side.
- Experiments with a web browser based terminal emulator. This web 2.0 solution allows traditional CL4 applications to be driven through a web browser with the added capability of introducing web style hyperlinks to access report files, jump to web sites, etc. This mechanism blurs the line between a terminal interface and a web interface.
Here is some new functionality for the developer. This functionality will definitely appear in a future release of CL4:
- Transaction management has been enhanced in CL4 to allow for transactions to be explicitly closed.
- Enhancements to the transaction logging also allow for database updates to be watched to see how transaction boundaries are being managed.

Do you know where all your assets are?
Do you know where all your assets are? Have you ever replaced things that didn't need replacing or not replaced things quickly enough because you didn't know that they were missing or broken? How do you manage maintenance of your physical and fixed assets, to ensure that you are compliant with OH&S requirements? How much do you rely on field staff to track and manage and maintain your assets accurately?
 |
|
Get your assets under control
Multibase helps your business control assets, improve service, streamline maintenance, and save money. Using Loc8 and its PDA (mobile Personal Digital Assistant) tool, we deliver efficient and effective asset auditing and management solutions for any type of asset in any industry and location. With built-in helpdesk and maintenance management modules, Loc8 is affordable, fast to set up, has powerful reporting, and is easy to manage.

Is your software compliant?
Are you using only software that you have actually purchased? 2010 is predicted to see an increase in licensing compliance activities by software vendors. The key is usage - understanding what is installed and what is actually being used.
Are you over-paying for software? Many organisations pay licence fees each year - for licences or users that are no longer active.
Express Software Manager is a powerful IT asset management suite that integrates PC inventory, software usage tracking, and application control into an easy-to-use hardware and software asset management solution. Express Software Manager provides instant access to detailed, comprehensive IT asset data-enabling you to easily track and manage the inventory, purchasing details, and usage of desktop assets.
