New in CL4

Multibase's aim has always been to help you maximise the ongoing value of your software investments. If you’re running a CL4 green screen application, there’s so much that we can do for you that you might be surprised.

Check out these new CL4 features. If you would like a demonstration, please phone us on 02 9805 1911, or email info@mbase.com.au.

Shell-in-a-box

Shell-in-a-box

CL4 now offers a terminal emulator in a standard web browser, accessible from any device with a browser installed – even mobile devices like tablet computers or iPads.

  • Hyperlinks injected from your application – for example in menu items - will be interpreted as hyperlinks and the linked page will be displayed in the browser - thus switching from a terminal emulator to a browser. One application we’ve built will display a hyperlink that links to a secure individual repository of reports generated by each user.
  • Connect to your CL4 applications without having to install separate software on each PC. Mount a handheld device with a barcode scanner for input on the forklift in your warehouse. Via wireless network, access your existing green-screen CL4 warehouse application from a standard web browser. Use the scanner to record the quantity and from and to locations of stock movements.
  • Shell-in-a-box and CL4 will help developers create some fantastic new reporting options, to integrate your CL4 programs, Shell-in-a-box, enhanced printing capabilities and the native functions of a web browser. There’s no need to write laborious HTML to format reports for the screen. Instead, we've used a text to PDF converter. Using Shell-in-a-box, generate an ordinary text report, but instead of throwing to the printer, create a PDF file.
  • We can show you an application to print to screen (repaginating when the size of the browser is changed) and any kind of printer such as dot matrix, laser, A3 or PDF.

For developers - new CL4 features

For developers - new CL4 features

New developer-oriented features in CL4 make it easier to retrieve data and use it in your CL4 applications and reports. The result is more user-friendly functions added to your existing CL4 applications. These new features will work in any terminal emulator, and can also run in Shell-in-a-box, the browser terminal emulator.

endtrans: Force an endtran in the cltlog, which will put a marker in the cltlog to end a transaction. You can thus avoid leaving incomplete transactions in your cltlog.

set csv: A tool to allow reports to output to a .csv file as well as the current printer or screen with minimal code changes.

set dos: Prints carriage return and new line, when your program prints new line. Allows for windows compatibility in output files.

cltlogin: –A now allows you to watch a log file as it’s been created in real time, for troubleshooting.

clquery resizes automatically. When you change the size of your screen in your terminal emulator, everything resizes automatically.

clquery also has set csv and set dos to make the output file easier to use.

clquery also allows you to set pager, which is commonly defined to use "less" as the paginator.

Legacy system services

Multibase continues to support a range of legacy CL4 systems, and we’re taking on even more to enable our customers to continue to use their CL4 systems and to add new, modern features.

We can help you with better reporting, easier access to your data, and browser-based front ends to your existing backend systems previously accessed only on PCs through your terminals.

There’s no need to throw the baby out with proverbial bathwater when you want an enhancement: and we’re increasingly being asked to provide access to systems from mobile devices.
